Ah, but the true purpose of the sight hood is to protect the sight from getting dinged or the bead getting knocked off when not in use. I've seen people trying to sight through a hood when there was hardly any room inside there to see the bead because they didn't know enough to remove the hood first. I have hoods in my sight box that I don't have a clue as to what rifles they came off of long ago- what does that tell you about my opinion of sight hoods?! Obviously with this King sight the hood is meant to be disposed of before using the front sight.
