Haven't read the whole thread as I can only imagine the chit show involved... I have a simple question, why not just use a pack frame and a couple sharp knives and bone out the deer, load on a pack frame and climb out?
Seems a person has to access the deer with the rope and winch method also?
Cant imagine anything short of a few situations involving mountain goats where a fella couldn't do this?
As far as bullet performance I suspect the velocity was to low for the bullet design?
