You can bet that they will have several Federal charges waiting.

The Federales will probably be in touch with the State Prosecutor, and tell them that if Smollett isn't convicted and given time on prison, that the Feds will file charges themselves and make damn sure he goes to the hoosegow for a much longer period.

I've personally seen the US Atty's ofc do that.
