IF it was me, I would chamber the rifle in .375 Whelen, as those cases are EASILY reformed from .30-06 AND it's a KILLER w/o tearing your shoulder off with excess recoil. = Your targeted animals won't care that they were killed by a cheap/easily made/efficient caliber.

Btw, within 30-45 days, I'll have a .400 Brown-Whelen Improved Model 760 Remington that Jessie at JES will remodel for me, from my "garage sale" .30-06 that has a BADLY pitted barrel.
(The .400 B-WI is the most powerful cartridge that can be made from .30-06 cases.)

Jessie's work is peerless & money won't buy the "old school" 9.3x62mm Model 760 that he reformatted for me. =====> A 5-shot group, off the bench, from that rifle (presuming that I do my part) at 150M can be covered with a US quarter.
