In case anyone is interested, the idea behind my title was that you don't have to be a great athlete to kick ass. This guy was short and fat, and kicked the butt of a tall and classically athletic looking boxer. Oh, I get it. You are short, fat, and a great bench press competitor. Okay. Point taken. But in boxing, at that level, it's uncommon.

The point was that given leverages and other structure, a lot of what leads to success in any sport, is unseen on the surface. Bodybuilding has created the impression that such a physique, is superior. There have been several great boxers who were rotund, Tony Galento, Butterbean, come to mind. Reach, is probably the biggest reason that boxers with that sort of build don't go into the sport, not fat. With a shorter reach, they are going to get hit a lot, especially when they are learning. Nobody likes to get hit.
