48 grs. IMR 4198 and any 300 gr. bullet worked well for me since I bought one of the first Marlin 1895's in 1972. Shot well out of a Ruger Number 1 also. Good deer load at just under 2000 fps.
You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.
