both work fine for close up to 400 yards.
That versatility is the important bit for me as well. That 12.5" Grendel in my pic above has a 3-9x Mark AR, which isn't popular here on the 'Fire, but has served me well out to nearly 700 yards with that gun while also being useful at short distances inside a house. (Although I would NOT want to light it off indoors; it seems significantly louder than my 10.5" 5.56.)
