Work on the ranch for permission to hunt is not a new thing at all. I have a couple of Montana ranchers that have me welding gates and rewired pump shacks. I usually bring a pretty good load of Washington fresh fruit with me.
What's even more strange, is there are a lot of guys I know that pay good money just to go back to work on some of those ranches. That really makes me scratch my head. Where were these idiots when I was a kid rebuilding fences?
