I tried a pair of SmartWool socks in 2004 just to see what all the hype was about. I have purchased nothing else since then. I have been walking between 5 and 12 miles daily, largely off trail, in the mountains of Wyoming for the last 25 days in Altra running shoes or Salomon boots but always w/ SmartWool socks. No blisters, no cold feet in the snow and I am a true tenderfoot. I don't know if they are the best ever but they perform way above their cost. Probably the best value of all my gear purchases. Socks are importantgrin
