My Dad died of lung cancer in 1997, the man shaved everyday of his adult life, never saw him with stubble. When he went into the cancer ward one of the first things they took was his shaving kit. Only electric razors, during chemo your skin becomes thin and brittle. The fear is infection entering through a nick, which your depleted immune system cannot fight off. Hence the beard on many.
Thanks for the info. I didn't know why Sinatra grew a beard towards the end but he never had had one before, in a 60 year career. I don't know what Sinatra died from, but, if it wasn't cancer, I assume that, near the end, you just get to a point where you don't give a crap any more.
