Albert Speer, after the war, said he should have mobilized the German women as a work force rather than having used slave labor from camps and prisons, he studied the American industrial mobilization quite closely. Seems he found out the hard way when you use slaves, productivity and quality control suffer. He was amazed at the quality of construction of the American military equipment, particularly given the rate at which we produced things. German industry couldn’t keep up due to a large number of issues, from raw material supplies to labor issues. I for one am glad we tapped into that labor supply. My great aunt and uncle met in the factory where they were producing 40mm bodies ammunition.
