I leave mine in.
3 vehicles.
1 pickup has a ball for the boat, and has a brush skirt attached to help keep debris from hitting my boat and 5th wheel.
Its bolted with a 5/8" bolt and nylock nut and washers, as well as a tightener.
The other truck has a 2" ball on it for my decoy trailer. It's my huntin truck !
Hitch tightener too.
The Hummer has a good size drop, and ball for the boat. Locked, and tightener on it.
We never hit our shins, and use the balls as a step to get in the bed.
