There might be 2 or 3 members of the fire who remember fender skirts. They were stolen often enough that those of us who had a few brain cells to rub together would duct tape razor blades to the latch area on ours. Finding bloody handprints and big dents kicked into our fender skirts was a pretty common situation! The same thing might work on a receiver hitch latch pin.
