You must learn to keep the sights aligned until after the recoil, not until just before recoil, follow through.

I think you are correct. Usually I see noobs yanking the trigger - so lefties going low and right. But given what this person has described, I think they anticipating the recoil.
The Shield is not the best gun for new shooters.
