7k lb Empty for half ton is getting up there ... it’s really more about controlling and stopping the weight. Not just pulling it.
3/4 ton gasser guzzles gas.

I know Nissan quit making the titan with the V8 Cummins. Maybe you can find a deal on those since they aren’t selling well ? But their pay load sucks from I hear. Nothing air bags can’t fix.

One has to think about a lot more than just the expense of the purchase. One must also consider whether or not their driving needs and habits when not towing are likely to lead to significant reliability woes. It's not just the $$.
