My options are S&W 63, Ruger SR22, or if I think I need/want more gun, my Ruger SP101 3” .357.
More often than not, its my SR22 that makes the trip.
If it’s people I’m concerned about, I’ll probably carry my Taurus 709 slim 9mm.
A “no print” Taurus 738 in .380 carries well in a cargo pocket in shorts.
