I have some Hawk 275gr. bullets on order. Just wondering if any one has any load data and/or hunting experience.
Thanks

In answer to your hunting question, I took a huge Shiras Bull Moose last year in Colorado with my Ruger Hawkeye SS/Syn 35 Whelen with 1:12 barrel twist and a 280 gr. SAF going 2,300 fps.

He was standing broadside at 40 yds. when I hit him in the shoulder. He took four steps and fell over dead. Found the bullet under the hide on the opposite side.

Surefire, I like your bullet and caliber choice!

I've taken two large bull moose (55 and 56 inch rack) with the 275 grain 358 woodleigh at 2200 fps

two medium-large bull moose (40 and 42 inch rack) with the 300 grain 9.3 mm a frame at 2400 fps.

In all instances: Deep penetration with all shots taken, lots of blood spilled, clean holes with no bloodshot mess.

The standard medium bores sure do make a great moose gun. Always pack the meat right where you shoot them rather than chance of 100-200 yards further out in some swamp hole or brush tangle:

338 federal, 338-06, 35 whelen, 358 winchester, 9.3x57, 9.3x62 all make handy, potent little 4-5 down carbines.

That 2300-2500 fps velocity window is the sweet spot.

I agree too. I think the 33, 35, and 9.3 calibers are some of the best all around big game hunting calibers we have. The are more versatile, flexible, and affective then they get credit for. Some of the most over looked caliber/cartridges out there.
