Off topic, but the Grammar Cop in me has to ask: When did this erroneous habit begin of placing the dollar sign after the numerals?

When a grown ass man says 600 dollars in a conversation he says “600 dollars” he doesn’t say “Yo, Darrell, how bout dollar sign 600 for that old 440 Chrysler block?”
If Toot wants to type it like that, that’s his preference. I do it like that as well.
I haven’t broken out the Harbrace college handbook to follow up, I’m sure there is an appropriate convention on it. I would be just warm and tickled pink for a link showing us all that you’re correct in your assumptions, ya know you being a writer and such.
