It is bad-advice not to put in a VHF radio.... get one!
Other boats have them and use them all the time, and the coast guard sends out all of their emergency messages and requests for help to other boaters on the VHF.
One day it could save your life, or some other person who is in your vicinity and has a boating emergency.
