I think you may have made a calculation error. Assuming the sight radius is 24" (just a guess on my part), effecting a change in point of impact (POI) of 8 inches at 50 yards would require a change in front sight height of:
0.107, or about 7/64.

Similar triangles:
8 / (50 x 36) = Z / 24
Solve for "Z"

Of course, you need to plug in the correct sight radius for your gun.
