Recently purchased a old redfield peep sight for my 22 magnum over 410.
This installs on the grooved barrel. I have it set in the lowest position and still shooting 8 inches high at 50 yards. My calculations show I need a 3/8 inch higher front sight. That is going to be one tall front sight. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I think you may have made a calculation error. Assuming the sight radius is 24" (just a guess on my part), effecting a change in point of impact (POI) of 8 inches at 50 yards would require a change in front sight height of:
0.107, or about 7/64.
Similar triangles:
8 / (50 x 36) = Z / 24
Solve for "Z"
Of course, you need to plug in the correct sight radius for your gun.
