A lot of people have grown up without fathers and did not get in trouble. It's not the lack of a father that causes someone to become a thug. That's just a convenient excuse to try and dismiss their behavior.............and a way to avoid being called a racist for telling the real reason.
To a degree, but as mentioned above 'oversimplification' comes in to play, actually on both sides IMO
