Drove Wife down there for a Marathon a few years back, start line was at the Capitol iirc, POPO, Dogs were everywhere, choppers in the air too, i didn't like the vibe at all, was more than happy to head N/NW!
Those events are well patrolled particularly along the Mississippi River levee route and River Road.
