Be worth a shot. Ingwe assured me that in the climates that I hunt in; a standard large rifle primer would be fine.

You mentioned misfires, I just got this one back from Ruger because it was misfiring. Headspace checked out ok, but they said it was suffering from light primer strikes. They replaced the breech block, hammer strut and spring, and the firing pin/spring. I have the parts list, I'm trying to remember off the top of my head. It's been fine since then. If the misfires continue; it might be worth checking out

I've had mis-fire issues with every new Ruger Hawkeye I've purchased for quite a few years now. I always strip the bolt, clean it thoroughly and replace the firing pin spring with a Wolf 24# spring as standard procedure. Even with the bolt cleaning and heavier spring, the recently offered African 9.3x62 still gave misfires making me suspicious I may have a headspace issue. Switching from CCI to Federal primers made the issue go a way, so moving forward, I guess I need to use Federal primers for the first firing of virgin brass before going to CCI's.

I've never had an issue with No. 1's mis-firing from light primer strikes...
