I think you're right about that. They are lawyers so they've spent quite a bit of time being trained not to see things morally but in terms of billable hours and the easiest way to reach the least bad outcome.

I love it when a lawyer does think morally and stands on principle but the legal system is largely broken especially in left leaning areas and being in the right doesn't guarantee a win. They know better than I what they were up against and maybe they see it as 1 battle not the whole war. They are leftists so I'm not sure how they tic but I'm pretty sure they've spent a bit of time reconsidering their political leanings.
