Couple things you will notice: You will have the pick of parking places while shopping during the week. Also much shorter lines at the checkout. Getting appointments will be much easier. You will stay home on weekends (too busy, too crowded)
Volunteering is indeed a good idea. I drove a golf cart in the parking lots at the local VA Hospital giving Vets rides to/from their cars. Now I walk dogs at the local animal shelter.
And your hobbies and projects will keep you plenty busy. And still have time for naps!
Been retired for five years and when I retired I closed that chapter of my life and don't look back.
