my son`s 1st centerfire rifle for deer hunting was a 7mm-08 20 years ago too ,my son was small ,no meat hardly on his skinny arms but he loved his Remington 700 S.S. 7MM-08 i loaded 120 gr. Nosler B.T. with H414 around 45 grs. i believe at age 12 killed a big doe and at 13 he killed a real nice 8 pt. Whitetail and still has that 7mm-08 rifle , that is his keepsake. now at 32 years of age for the last around 10 years has moved up to a 257 Weatherby mag. in a Ruger #1 , but brings his 7mm - 08 for a back up. the 7mm-08 cartridge is a very good choice for a youth shooter low recoil ,short action, very accurate ammo price is decent too for a 7mm-08 as is finding ammo at a store too.
