Ultra light fishing gear might be fun for the little fish, but you will have a lot of stories about the big one that got away. We saw that every year fishing in Canada. Big fish are older fish and their mouths are tougher and their skin is thicker than the little fish. You might hook into a softer spot now and again, but lots of the time you won’t set a hook deep enough into a big fish or have any control over it if you do hook into one. Maybe we were getting a little complacent about really rearing back to set a hook with a light rod, but year in and year out we got larger fish with rods with more back bone.
