As for Jew canoes, it may be a regional thing. When I lived in Brooklyn (1990s), the Jew canoes were the big Olds or Chevy station wagons that the Chasids would drive around in (think the type that sent Gavin Cato to heaven). I used that term all the time and I don't think anyone was ever offended by the use of the term. Then again, I wouldn't have cared whether there were hurt feelers.
