Wouldn't it have been easier and cheaper to save the 52 billion and simply declare that Taiwan's chip industry is essential to our national interest and any interference with such will bring a US military response?

With Taiwan producing 66% of the world’s production there’d be little need to declare what’s obvious.
And Taiwan is just a little close to that breakaway republic on the mainland right across the Strait .
