I had a 22" .25/06 for awhile, and it still killed stuff. It was a loud rascal, too, but when you're shooting at a deer (or coyote, or whatever), you don't notice it. Would it have been better with a 24" barrel? Not that the deer could tell. After all, plenty of deer fall every year with a .257 Roberts, with essentially the same velocity, right?
