My question is, if he had this damning information about whoever, why not use it when he had the chance?
Because they are fighting over whether or not Trump, as president, had authority to unilaterally declassify documents.
This is the set-up for a court battle that definitively answers that. I'm guessing Trump is going to win.
But, yeah, I'm surprised too that Trump didn't really poke them by publishing the docs.
