In north central PA, where I do most of my fly fishing, my favorite is a caddis larvae in any shade of green or yellow. The trout will take these at just about any time of the year. It is, I guess, my "go to" fly. Of course, it doesn't hurt that you could probably teach a blind monkey to tie one!
