For many years I ran the 280AI with 140g ballistic tips.
Typically 60 to 80 yard runs.
Did a stint with the 300 WM with 180g Ballistic tips.
Mixed bag between DRTs and 100 yard runs.
Did the 270 WCF with a mono copper bullet called a Groove 113g EXP. Very effective. 20 yard run and alot of DRTs.
Then Bob talked me into a 7mm Mashburn.
150g ballistic tips one deer did 100 yards second did 200.. Switched to the 168g Berger .
Total horror show. Might be fine at 800 yards but at 250 yards it nuked. Biggest mess I ever saw.
Went to the 26 Nosler 129g Accubond factory ammo.
Avg. Say about a 20 yard run. I liked it a lot.
Now running the 270 STW with a 130g TTSX. 3600 fps.
Last year 377 yards DRT.
This year 180 yards DRT.
And when I say DRT. I mean DRT big time.
For the 6.5x 300 I'd run the lightest TTSX or Hammer huunter bullet I could get to shoot and drive the ever liven snot out of it.
