Shooting 1000 clay birds or 100 rounds at long range steel in various conditions on a weekend makes shooting live birds or that once-in-a-hunt shot at big game seem easy


That could just be described as 'practice', as opposed to 'competition', or at least competition against others.
A guy could practice all day long, not win any kind of trophy to get pics of, not deal with crowds or whatever else, and still get the benefits you speak of.

I don't practice as much as I should for sure, for a few reasons, but think this is something important to clarify.
