The new top-end 1895s are listed at $1350 at Sportsman's Warehouse which isn't known as a discount place. Not sure where you get your numbers but it would seem someone is ripping folks off.

That price at Sportsman's is fairly in line with the cost of a similar "level" of Winchester '94.

A Super Blackhawk "hunter" that was around $600 a few years ago just clawed past $1000.

The point is, there's nothing unusually high about the Marlin cost. It sucks, it hurts, but it is what stuff costs today. Go try to find a new pickup .. compare it to the price of a the same truck, same equipment level 5 years ago. Prepare for heart attack.
