Flat shooting, less drifting shots are of great benefit. Pronghorns at 500+ yards are common in the later season. Trophy mule deer at long range is common, elk at long range is common. The 7mm Rem Mag with factory twist barrel can utilize 120-175 grain projectiles from 3,550 fps to roughly 3,000 fps. The 7mm Rem Mag is simply a 257 Wby on steroids. Very useful out west, maybe less so out east on whitetail deer.
It’s more than needed in terms of what it takes to kill deer, even at 400+ meters. In terms of what it takes to hit them where it counts when the wind blows, it may be just right.
