Islam was born in the 6th century AD (CE). Its the new kid on the block. Surely you know how old Christianity is.
Judaism can be traced back to Abraham. God made a covenant with him if he'd follow the ONE God. God told him that his descendants would be enslaved for 400 years then return to that land.
God also said that the sin of the Canaanites was not yet full. He was referring to the various tribes living in what's now Israel. They worshipped a number of false gods, several of which required child sacrifice. They were throwing their own children into the fires. They were also sexual perverts including incest and bestiality. When God said their sin was not yet full, he was giving them time to clean up their act before he cleaned it up for them. It was another 500 years before the Hebrews returned from Egypt and by that time, God had had enough of the Canaanites. He told the Hebrews to utterly destroy them, to kill every single person. They got off to a good start in doing it but when they got possession of the land, they quit. They didn't finish the job of wiping out the Canaanites and left many alive in the land. That was their downfall. They started bowing to the local false gods and it never let up. From the return from Egypt clear up through the end of the OT, the Hebrews were worshipping those false gods. The OT is full of references to their pagan worship. God punished them by enslavements under the Assyrians and the Babylonians, then later the Romans. It's never worked. Clear up until today, they still won't bow to the true God.

Add to that the reality that Israel is a type and shadow of the Church and represents all true believers who share the faith of Abraham that preceded the law.

They were never saved by the law and works or the keeping of a covenant. They mixed temple worship with pagan worship.

It’s good for us to understand the we are no different. We exemplify the same paganism and mixing of worship and affection. When we study that nation in the OT scriptures we are actually studying ourselves and the picture isn’t pretty. Most won’t acknowledge much less confess that reality but it is reality nonetheless.

The message is there for us so that we continually realize that we need and are fully dependent upon Christ for salvation.
