The clear evidence in the New Testament teaches that “Christians are not required to keep the law of Moses.” Period. Not only that, the New Testament also teaches that the covenant that God made with the ancient Israelites at Mount Sinai (the old covenant) has been retired. The book of Hebrews teaches that Jesus is our High Priest and that the New Covenant is a better covenant.
By calling this covenant “new,” [God] has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear (Heb 8:13). This text was written in the first century when most of Jesus’ handpicked apostles were still alive. And a few years later, in the year AD 70, the Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed (just as Jesus predicted).
And from that day until now (for the last 2000 years), it has been impossible for anyone…including ‘real’ Jews themselves…to be truly Torah-observant. The temple is gone, the priesthood is gone, and the sacrifices have ended. Clearly, the old covenant (the Mosaic Law) has become obsolete and has vanished, ‘despite’ the fact that Heaven and earth are still here.
