Either caliber in an accurate rifle could be a great sporter.
The 7mm got a later start, then speculation of it's death created a weak market. But it is just as well, if it had caught on at the beginning, that is the only rifle most folks would ever need. arms sells would probably be off for a lot of general do-all calibers like the 7 RM and 30-06.
