Thank you for the reply Jim. The rifle is exactly like the one in the pic, except the bluing is nice and crisp except for in front of the lever boss it is very worn from carrying. The rifle in the pic has browned and not nearly as nice as the one I'm looking at. It does indeed have the wavy lines on top and is NOT drilled and tapped. I thought I saw 39A stamped on the barrel, but I was looking at 4 marlins and wasn't sure I was keeping everything straight.
I think I'm going to get it, most 30/30's around here go for about 350.00 in this kind of condition, if the bluing is worn pretty good they go for about 250.00 so while it might not be a steal I think it is a fair price for a nice hunting rifle. Compared to a savage 99 these are a steal.
Does anyone have a pic of a correct buttplate for these? I'm going to have to find one as well as a rear sight elevator.................Scott
