A .444 ain't that bad. Try some rip-snorter .45-70s in a Guide Gun. I use one of those, too.
And I agree with you on the .30-30. I've been shooting deer for 40 years with the one I have. But, I like playing with big-bore levers, so I go a few times each year with one.
