50yards would be the normal maximum range when I go hunting (pigs, foxes, rabbits) with most shots well under this distance (15 to 20yds).
I have shot deer at 150yds.
The longest shots I have taken is at 200yards - I shot 7 goats before they realised that something was going on and decided to leave the area (they're not the brightest animal in the paddock).
