Is it heresy to say the Ruger 96/44??? Had one, lost it to a pawn loan years ago and regretted loosing and never replacing it. Once I decided to get a new one a couple years later, I found they had been discontinued. I paid less than $400 out the door new in 2002, and prices on used have skyrocketed with owners thinking they're made of gold apparently. And therefore rarely come up for sale at a decent price. Kind of funny, when you think they were constantly laughed at by the purists, nobody seemed to want them and had weak sales the entire time before they were axed. Always reminded me of a lever action M1 Carbine meets Savage 99.
