Consider these passages, all written about the fall of Jerusalem in 70AD. All refer to the same thing so it indicates that the abomination of desolation is the armies of Rome.

Mt 24:15 "So when you see standing in the holy place �the abomination that causes desolation�,spoken of through the prophet Daniel�let the reader understand�

Mr 13:14 � "When you see �the abomination that causes desolation� standing where it does not belong�let the reader understand�then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

Lu 21:20 "When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near.

Rome attacked during Passover and there could have been as many as a million people inside the city when the gates were locked. It was a horrible time of starvation. A single loaf of bread sold for a days wages. Even cannibalism was prevalent.
