Introduction
"When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judea flee into the mountains. . . For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be" (Matthew 24: 15, 16, 21).
Consider these passages, all written about the fall of Jerusalem in 70AD. All refer to the same thing so it indicates that the abomination of desolation is the armies of Rome.
Mt 24:15 "So when you see standing in the holy place �
the abomination that causes desolation�,spoken of through the prophet Daniel�let the reader understand�
Mr 13:14 � "When you see �
the abomination that causes desolation� standing where it does not belong�let the reader understand�then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
Lu 21:20 "When you see Jerusalem being
surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near.
Rome attacked during Passover and there could have been as many as a million people inside the city when the gates were locked. It was a horrible time of starvation. A single loaf of bread sold for a days wages. Even cannibalism was prevalent.
