Barnes 120 TTSX. I've tried the 120 NBT and found it doesn't always give complete penetration at powder burn ranges in the woods and swamps. The TTSX kills just as fast and leaves an exit hole.
The Sierra 120gr Pro-Hunter SPT was used on antelope and found to frag even at distance.

140 grain ballistic tip over a hot load of H414. 2800 fps out of a 18" model 7. Countless whitetails have never needed more than one shot. Only a couple have gone more than 30 yards. Most DRT. Only other bullet I have used was the 160 accubond. Did a fine job on a bison cow about 800 pounds.

Hornaday 139gr. Interlocks. DRT on 2 S.C. whitetails this year. Both projectiles travelled all the way thru and stopped against the hide on the away shoulder. The core separated from the rest of the bullet in both cases but they were intact otherwise.

I'm trying the 120 TTSX bullets this year at 3400 in a 280 AI after using the 140 grain version with excellent results on deer. They shoot to the exact POI at 100 yds.
I'm very interested in the 7mm-08, and may just get one eventually. Pretty darn good cartridge to zip those 120s at 3200+

I have used a lot of 145 gr Speer slugs in handholds, about 2700 fps. Very accurate load with which I have taken about 5-6 deer and a couple of hogs. Have also used the 140 BT on a couple of deer, one at a laser ranged 317 yards.

The Sierra 120gr Pro-Hunter SPT was used on antelope and found to frag even at distance. Had the same experience with the NBT coming to pieces on a whitetail. I am hoping to find a good TTSX recipe soon.

Thanks for the info and that is a pretty rifle.

I've shot a lot of rifles and cartridges over the years and by far the 7mm-08 is my favorite especially as I get older. Easy on the shoulder and absolute killer on deer, also works great in shorter barrels. I have 120 bts, and 140-160 Np's the problem is the 154 Hornady rn's are so accurate, that is all I have been using and my ranges are 150 yds and in 90% of the time.

I used the 708 a good bit on deer, then switched to 6.5x55, 260, and now 6.5x47 Lapua which kill very well. Also used 243 and 6BR all with equal success on deer.
Bullets- killed in 7-08 and 7BR rifle - 120 Hornady HP/SP, 130 Speer, 139 Hornady, 140 Sierra, 140 Btip.
If using a 7-08 today:
140 AB 120 TTSX 162 Amax
In that order. A 140 or 150 Partition would do most big game jobs very well.

With the 120 gr. TTSX, (in my rifles) a load of 44.0 gr. of RL 15 with a CCI 200 gets me 3100 fps and will kill anything I want to shoot with a 7mm bullet up to and including elk. It may be more bullet than needed for some stuff, but I know it will work. This same load also works well with the 120 gr. Ballistic Tip if that is your cup of tea. 41.5 gr. Pushes the 140 gr. Partition to 2800 fps. and makes it a very viable option. Do I like RL 15? It works for me.
If we live long enough, we all have regrets. But the ones that nag at us the most are the ones in which we know we had a choice.

I had three 7-08's at one point. Here is a 140 TSX, pushed by Varget, from an Antelope. Penetrated from shoulder to a rump roast, 200yd. Running the 140's because the shoot better than the 120 TSX's and I have several boxes to use up. The RL15 load didn't shoot well for me. I have some 120 TTSX's and 145 LRX's to try sometime. For Pharmseller; CCI200's and a +P load of Varget.

140 gr. Nosler Bal. Tip or Barnes TTSX. Never needed a second shot on whitetails or hogs.

140 Barnes TSX I've shot a couple grizzlies and moose with it on the upper end of things. A few sheep and caribou also. Works great!

Nothing as of yet, it won't shoot a group within 12" of the previous shot no matter what. Savage 10 with accutrigger, corelokt 140's.
So it will see no woods time until that is figured out. Love the round thou, seems to be the perfect balance of power and recoil, but will take a 308 anyday just because ammo for the 7 costs more and has less options for me. .

I loaded and shot 140gr Sierras last year sitting over Varget. Wanted to try some 120gr BT over RL15 this and they are looking real good so far. Our rifle season hasn't opened yet.... hopefully I'll have an update in a few weeks.
