As to AI, nothing I would ever consider. Why? A friend has a 30-06 AI and loves it. I, for one, have the 300 H&H and love it.

I just don't think they bring anything to the table that another standard cartridge can't match or best, not to mention their weirdness makes it tough if one is on a hunt in BFE and needs ammo.
A good principle to guide me through life: “This is all I have come to expect, standard lackluster performance. Trust nothing, believe no one and realize it will only get worse…”

I like the H&H myself but it would have to be in a Model 70 or Mauser action.

If it's going to be a heavier rifle, say 8.5-9.5 lbs. w/ a 24-26 barrel, I'd do a 300 H&H. If you want a 7.5-8 lb. rifle with a 22-24 inch barrel, I'd do an '06'. E

Mine is on a Model 70 classic action with a clean pac-nor #2 at 24", cerakoted midnite blue. Dropped in an Echols's Edge fill legend stock.
Topped with dual dovetails and a Leupy 2.5-8.
Should be done shortly and am currently trying to find some of the new Hornady 180gr GMX's.
Heading to Africa in June for a PG hunt and plan on using the 300 as a primary.

I appreciate the nostalgia connected with the 300 H&H, but if the goal is to eventually shoot it, I like the 300 Win as the more useful round. I don't have much patience to locate rare or seasonal brass.
Any of my 300 Win rifles can easily become a 30-06, but if you are going to use the rifle, with the exception of extreme long range, there isn't anything the others do that the 30-06 won't do as well with today's bullets and powders.

If choosing the 300 H&H have you found accuracy to be superb? The first (and only) practice load that I worked up for my .300H&H.

Well it looks like the 300 H&H has the commanding lead. I handload all of my own ammo, so this is not a consideration. How do you guys feel about the recoil in a 7lb rifle? I own a 416 Taylor, and it's not horrible to shoot.

Part of the utility of a properly chambered AI rifle is that you can use factory ammo in a pinch, but I know that you already knew that Jorge .........

300 H&H! I've always had a thing for that round.

Have an H & H in a number one.. Cool round great game rifle.. Once you get a supply of brass you are set.. 06's are common as dirt, the H & H has CLASS!!!

300 H&H for sure........nothing else has it's cool factor.
It's actual ballistics might fool you & will almost surely bring a smile to your face.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

If you are serious about "retro" then it would be the 30-06 If you want the original retro 300 H&H ballistics then get the 30-06 If you want easy to find ammo and components then get the 30-06

Between those two, it would be 30-06 for me as well.

If I only used the .30-06, I would have given up shooting and hunting 20 years ago..
