This auction closed a bit ago, so I thought it would be ok to post on it now. I did not buy it, buy tried to stay in for awhile, until it was over what I could afford. I don't think there were many 99EGs made in 30-30, and I would think that most that were made were not checkered. This one had a very late 1939 serial number (so one of the very early checkered EGs), and 1940 was that last year the EG was made in a 30-30 ... so all in all, I would think a pretty rare variant. Can't say that I have ever seen a pre war checkered 30-30 EG.
However that being said, Somebody thought it was worth more than me or you, I wouldn't have paid that much for it either...

I've got one, refinished and stamped ISP on the receiver (Iowa State Prisons is my current belief). Think it has a 22" barrel, sn 395,xxx.

can't letter a 430,000 - well, you can, but the best you'll get is a shipping date. 430,000 would be 1945.

I have one, 22" bbl. S/N 399,XXX. Mine came to me with a 2.5X Weaver in Stith mount.

I would like a 99EG in 30-30 that was checkered. Or a Salesman Sample in 30-30. Both would work. 30-30s are cheap and easy to feed.

Norm, yes, you have reported that serial before... EG, 24" Utica brl.
Very close to another reported EG, 24" from Canada, 43923x (highest serial EG, .30-30 in my data).
I do show a higher EG in .303 Sav., 44537x w/24" brl.
Most of these WWII rifles with .30-30 and .303, 22" and 24" brls have the RT forearm.
I see no rimmed cartridge brls after the move to Chicopee till the .375 Win.
