While folks love the 60s muscle cars as I do, my favorite local car is this: You may be interested, each year we get the vintage Rolls Royce club and also the mini car club visit town to have their get-together here, it is a joy to see such effort. Just recently there were an awful lot of vintage caravans coming through from a get-together in Queensland...those people really are serious about their hobby.
These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.

Rem 782 I assume you meant 582. That is a beauty. Factory stock? Mine is birch but I know they made some walnut versions too.

Correct. Had to double-check my post. Musta fat-fingered that one. Guess I had 788 on the brain since this rifle is related with the rear-locking bolt. Definitely a 582. That is a stock I fitted. I still have the factory birch stock, which is in very good shape. I just like walnut. Thanks!

What barrel is the 6.5-06 built on?

How's the feed mechanism holding up on yours? I've read that tube- feed wear out over time.
I've had a 581 since Christmas of '67. It's a good shooter, but this year I'm going to play with the bedding a bit to try and make it better. That single screw is kinda loosey-goosey.
What fresh Hell is this?

Pappy, I bought the rifle from a guy in South Dakota I worked with back in the early 90s. He used it to keep PDs out of the yard. It looked new when I bought it, and a Boyt case was included for the sum of 50 bucks. The rifle fed perfectly until Fall last year. I had to work on it a little, but seems to be working pretty well now with some cleaning, smoothing and extractor work. When it starting messing up, I found that if you push on the rear of the bolt directly, it feeds like butter. I've been playing around with the bedding on mine. I have not glassed anything, but found that it likes the barrel floated back to the shank. Still playing with it to figure out the best route to take. It does shoot very well.

Mine's floated, but there's some wiggle in the works. Gonna try a shim under the barrel.
I only had one mag for the first 30-some years, but picked one up at an LGS on impulse one day. Good thing, as the original started getting a bit balky at times soon after and 5-rounders are tough to find.
Great little cheap guns. Might pick up a 580 someday for grins.
That Redfield on yours is a good match.
