Before I start dealing with the idiots at the store. Wife clicked the 'Update now' on her Apple 5c phone.

After the update it asks for a Passcode to enter the phone. Of course she never had a Passcode.

WTFO?

Go to settings then touch Passcode. You can turn off passcode there or reset.

Here is a couple of ways to try

https://www.quora.com/I-forgot-my-iPhone-ID-and-password-How-can-I-unlock-my-iPhone
If you’ve synced your device with a trusted computer before, use iTunes.
If you remember your Apple ID and password, try Find My iPhone in iCloud.
If you’ve never synced your device or set up Find My iPhone, use Recovery Mode.

This. Likely a bug in the OS code. There's lots of them. But way better than Android.

Not sure from when I had an I-phone, but I think the default passcode is all zeroes.........easy to try.

When I need a [bleep] computer to log into Itunes to restore my phone to factory settings, they can kiss my ever loving ass.

I [bleep] hate all things Apple. Wife loves them, I just threw the phone back at her and told her to fix it or not have a phone, I don't give a sheit.

Apple makes everything easy. For me at least.

Every Android phone I've had is a piece of schist.

Yeah, real easy. Nothing like needing to plug your phone into your computer, log into an Itunes account and scrub your phone because the update decided to give you a passcode.

That's the reason they call them smart phones.

They have just about updated me from using their phone anymore.

They put updates that you don't want and have no way to opt out of.

Must have hired some folks from microsoft to work for them.

Updating an iPhone is easy, and has never presented a problem. I think it's a good idea to keep the phone up to date with the latest software. Many other platforms don't support their phones, and never upgrade.
My iPhone 5 is 4 years old, and performs like a brand new one.
