I have a chance to buy this Mod. 28 on the bottom and I thought it would be a good companion gun to my Mod 29 on the top. But I'm undecided,...do I really need it?...what will it do that the .44 won't do? They're both N frames and I have three holsters for the 29 that the 28 will fit also.

They're asking $800.00, seems kinda high to me. I was gonna make an offer, What would be a reasonable price?

i have a bunch if k frame 357's. but i did buy a 28 for hot loads that i really didn't want to run through the k frames.
the 28's will handle a smoking load if you want to push them.
As to need, i could as myself that shelling out some money tomorrow for a S serial numbered smith built in 1965.
can't help myself.

I'd pass at that price. I bought a mint four inch one four or five years ago for $400. Yes, I realize they have gone up as I own a pile of P&R'd N-Frames. Said M28 is now a 38 WCF.

...yes you need that gun...but not at that price...

If the grips are correct that will be a 1960s vintage 28....and looks to be very nice shape.

Did some checking over on the GunBroker completed auctions and 4" 28s are bringing $500-700 depending on condition/age. There were a few that brought BIG money but they were LNIB or very early guns in nice condition.

$650-700 would be a good price to pay...then again as has been said, they aren't making them anymore...

Unless that's something missing in your collection, and you must have it, that's a bit much for that 28. I think I paid $350.00 for one just like it ten years ago. Of course, that doesn't mean much in modern markets.

If your interest is strictly practical, it doesn't make much sense since, as you say, you already have a more capable chambering in an N-Frame.
